[被毛] 短而浓厚,圆滑而有光泽,但既不呈羊毛状,也不呈丝状。
[颜色] 浅小麦色到红小麦色。在胸部和脚趾有少量的白色是允许的,但在腹部或脚趾以上有多余的白色则不合需要。
[脊背]这个品种在脊背上长有与其他毛发生长方向相反的毛发,罗得西亚脊背犬最重要的特征就是在脊背上的逆毛。脊背上的逆毛非常清晰,两端略细,对称。从肩胛后开始,延伸到臀部突起处中间,包括两个一样的旋,一边一个,旋的较低的边缘不能低于脊背上逆毛的1/3。失格:没有脊背逆毛。严重缺陷:只有一个旋或多于两个旋。
[步态] 小跑时,背部保持水平,且步伐效率高,步幅大,舒展、自由。前躯伸展和后躯驱动协调,显示出力量和优雅。在追击时,罗得西亚脊背犬显示出高速奔跑的爆发力和耐力。
[气质] 气质威严而平静。对陌生人有所保留。
[失格] 没有脊背逆毛。

Hound Group
General Appearance
TheRidgeback represents a strong, muscular and active dog, symmetrical andbalanced in outline. A mature Ridgeback is a handsome, upstanding andathletic dog, capable of great endurance with a fair (good) amount ofspeed. Of even, dignified temperament, the Ridgeback is devoted andaffectionate to his master, reserved with strangers. The peculiarity ofthis breed is theridgeon the back. The ridge must be regarded as the characteristic feature of the breed.
Size, Proportion, Substance
A mature Ridgeback should be symmetrical in outline, slightly longerthan tall but well balanced. Dogs--25 to 27 inches in height;Bitches--24 to 26 inches in height. Desirable weight: Dogs--85 pounds;Bitches--70 pounds.
Head
Should be of fairlength, the skull flat and rather broad between the ears and should befree from wrinkles when in repose. The stop should be reasonably welldefined.Eyes--should be moderately well apart and should beround, bright and sparkling with intelligent expression, their colorharmonizing with the color of the dog.Ears--should be setrather high, of medium size, rather wide at the base and tapering to arounded point. They should be carried close to the head.Muzzle--should be long, deep and powerful. The lips clean, closely fitting the jaws.Nose--shouldbe black, brown or liver, in keeping with the color of the dog. Noother colored nose is permissible. A black nose should be accompaniedby dark eyes, a brown or liver nose with amber eyes.Bite--jaws level and strong with well-developed teeth, especially the canines or holders. Scissors bite preferred.
Neck, Topline, Body
Theneck should be fairly strong and free from throatiness. The chestshould not be too wide, but very deep and capacious, ribs moderatelywell sprung, never rounded like barrel hoops (which would indicate wantof speed). The back is powerful and firm with strong loins which aremuscular and slightly arched. The tail should be strong at theinsertion and generally tapering towards the end, free from coarseness.It should not be inserted too high or too low and should be carriedwith a slight curve upwards, never curled or gay.
Forequarters
Theshoulders should be sloping, clean and muscular, denoting speed. Elbowsclose to the body. The forelegs should be perfectly straight, strongand heavy in bone. The feet should be compact with well-arched toes,round, tough, elastic pads, protected by hair between the toes andpads. Dewclaws may be removed.
Hindquarters
In the hindlegs the muscles should be clean, well defined and hocks well down. Feet as in front.
Coat
Should be short and dense, sleek and glossy in appearance but neither woolly nor silky.
Color
Lightwheaten to red wheaten. A little white on the chest and toespermissible but excessive white there, on the belly or above the toesis undesirable.
Ridge
The hallmark of this breed is theridgeon the back which is formed by the hair growing in the oppositedirection to the rest of the coat. The ridge must be regarded as thecharacteristic feature of the breed. The ridge should be clearlydefined, tapering and symmetrical. It should start immediately behindthe shoulders and continue to a point between the prominence of thehips and should contain two identical crowns (whorls) directly oppositeeach other. The lower edge of the crowns (whorls) should not extendfurther down the ridge than one third of the ridge.
Disqualification: Ridgelessness. Serious Fault: One crown (whorl) or more than two crowns (whorls).
Gait
Atthe trot, the back is held level and the stride is efficient, long,free and unrestricted. Reach and drive expressing a perfect balancebetween power and elegance. At the chase, the Ridgeback demonstratesgreat coursing ability and endurance.
Temperament
Dignified and even tempered. Reserved with strangers.
